Time: Friend or Foe?

Small adjustments to your daily routines might steer your life in a drastically different direction. Making a decision that is 1% better or 1% worse may seem inconsequential at the time, but over the course of a lifetime, these decisions shape who you are and who you could be. Success is the result of daily actions, not of one-off occasions.

It doesn’t matter what type of shape you are in right now. What is important is whether your habits are leading you in the direction of success. Where you are headed should be much more important than your current status.

Even if you are in excellent shape right now, if you don't exercise and consume more calories than you burn, you are headed in the wrong direction. In contrast,  if you’re not in the best shape but are exercising and eating fewer calories than you burn, you’re on the path to getting in shape and losing weight-even if you’re progressing slower than you’d like.

Your results are a lagging measure of your habits.  The type of shape you are in is a lagging measure of your eating and exercise habits.  Your results are determined by what you repeat.

If you want to predict what type of shape you’ll be in in the future, keep track of your minor gains and losses, and see how your choices will add up over time.  Do you regularly work out? Are you eating a clean and healthy diet? These small battles will shape who you are going to be in the future.

The difference between success and failure widens with time. Time is an ally for good habits and an enemy for bad habits.
